Files & safety
How MythSheet protects your files, what recovery covers, and the limits of text replace.
File formats
Which file formats MythSheet supports is still being confirmed. They will be listed here once they are.
Your original stays protected
In development builds:
- Original-file protection: work happens on a copy, so the file you opened is not overwritten.
- Save as copy: save your changes as a separate file.
- Unsaved-changes prompt: a warning before you lose unsaved work.
- External-change check: MythSheet checks whether the file changed on disk.
Recovery checkpoints
You can create manual recovery checkpoints. Their scope is limited: they are not autosave, they do not guarantee zero loss after a crash, and they are not a permanent undo history.
Recent files
The recent-files list is optional and off until you turn it on. It stores only limited local path information and never opens a file by itself. Forgetting an entry removes it from the list and does not delete the workbook.
Safe text replace
In progress
The core is built and has passed an independent, scoped code review. The interface runs locally; final interface review is still underway.
The first version is a literal, case-sensitive text replace inside a range you choose:
- Only text cells change. Numbers, formulas and blank cells are skipped.
- Text type, styles and unrelated cells are kept as they were.
- A replacement that starts with
=stays text and does not become a formula. - The whole change is undone or redone in one step.
- The preview is tied to the document and its revision, so it matches what will change.
- Sheets that contain merged cells are refused for now. There is no unconditional replace across a whole workbook.
