MythSheet overview
A Rust-native data workspace in development: familiar cells and formulas, with analysis and inspectable AI assistance in the same place.
MythSheet is a Rust-native data workspace, in development. It keeps the familiar way of working with cells and formulas, and explores putting data cleanup, analytical outputs and AI assistance in one workspace. The sheet is an important tool, but not the only kind of output, and the work is not meant to happen only through chat.
Status: in development
There is no public download, release date or price yet. Development builds run natively on Linux; Windows is not yet verified. AI workflows and compatibility are still being validated. Join the waitlist for development updates and early builds.
These docs keep three labels apart, the same way the product page does: working (in development builds, verified locally, not a public release), in progress and planned.
Built with
| Part | What it is |
|---|---|
| Core | Rust |
| Desktop interface | egui / eframe. A native app, not Electron |
| Formula engine | Built on IronCalc, pinned at 0.9.0, with locally reviewed patches. See Formulas |
One real workflow
What a development build does today with a bank export:
- Open, safely. The original file stays protected. Work happens on a copy, with a warning for unsaved changes and a check if the file changes on disk.
- Paste the export. Pasting keeps types in check: leading zeros stay as text, and a batch of edits is undone in one step.
- Reconcile. Formulas and a reconciliation worksheet compare bank and ledger, with status and validity checks per row.
- Check the result. A read-only sorted or filtered view and a basic dashboard from an explicit range show what changed.
Working in development builds
- Editing: editable cells, formula bar, sheet navigation, range selection and the basic shortcuts, including new, open, save and save as copy. Local help is built in.
- Copy and paste: type-guarded, with leading zeros kept as text and one undo for several batch operations.
- Formatting: basic number and percent formats, bold and a few more. Not a full formatting system yet.
- Find and views: find, plus read-only sorted and filtered views. These views do not reorder the sheet itself.
- Dashboard: a basic dashboard from an explicit data range and field mapping.
- Worksheets: reconciliation, manual cash planning and weekly project reports, each with its own status and some validity checks. This is not accounting software.
- File safety: original-file protection, save as copy, unsaved-changes prompt, external-change check and limited manual recovery checkpoints. See Files & safety.
- Workspace modes: General and Accounting modes mainly change which tools are shown. They are not finished professional AI modes.
- Interface: light and dark themes, a collapsible icon sidebar, and grouped settings with Apply, Cancel and Reset to defaults. Only safe, non-secret preferences are saved.
In progress
- Safe text replace: literal, case-sensitive replace inside a chosen range. See Files & safety.
- Windows builds: not yet verified natively. See Availability & platforms.
- AI with your own model key: experimental. See AI & BYOK.
Planned
- Real paged print preview and PDF export, with orientation, margins, scaling, repeated headers, headers and footers.
- The system print dialog, checked against real output. A PDF export does not count as printed.
- AI that sets up layout through structured tools, previews it and asks before printing, instead of printing on its own.
- Fuller data validation, autofill, frozen rows and columns, conditional formats, charts and pivot summaries, each confirmed and built one by one.
- Chinese input methods, native assistive technology, large files and crash recovery, tested one by one.
